Mission Statement
The Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad's since being established in 1990, has never charged a patient for our services and wishes to continue this trajectory of care without fees. We provide first aid in medical emergencies and trauma incidents in addition to assisting in different forms of rescues. The Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad places a large emphasis on community and hosts and attends many events targeted at teaching young children the basics of first aid through fun teaching styles. As they grow older, our cadet program allows those ages 14-17 to participate in EMS under the supervision of more experienced officers and upon turning 16 we encourage all members interested in playing a larger role in scenes to obtain their EMT certification. Additionally, we host our largest annual fundraiser the Harvest Festival each year to sustain our organization but also provide the community with a place to socialize and have fun for an autumn day.
Description
Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue is staffed 100% by volunteers, who serve primarily as drivers and EMTs. We have cadet programming for students aged 14-17 who are interested in observing emergency medical services firsthand and assisting with fundraising, the Tewksbury Harvest Festival, and getting a feel for the TFARS family. Additionally, volunteers are welcome to join the squad on an associate level to help with community outreach, technical support and fundraising. Vehicle training is provided by TFARS and our educational partners for all drivers of ambulances and emergency vehicles. Further, the cost for EMT certification, which is obtained through local qualified schools or rescue squads, is fully compensable provided candidates complete the course and pass the required licensing examinations. All of our members are fully trained to perform the tasks required of them, and all members are required (EMTs) or encouraged (drivers) to continue to hone their skills through continuing education. We take pride in providing competent, compassionate, free services to the Tewksbury community.
