Description
Santa Barbara Meals on Wheels is an independent, volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of elderly, disabled and homebound residents of the city of Santa Barbara. Since 1971, our team of volunteer drivers has delivered meals seven days a week and offered friendly interaction to our clients, many of whom are isolated. Our meals are prepared d aily in the kitchen of the Valle Verde Retirement Community, and drivers arrive there at 10 a.m. each day to pick up meals and make their deliveries. Most drivers have a weekly route that takes one to two hours to cover, and same share a route with another driver so that their commitment is twice a month. When our volunteers have plans to be away, we arrange for a sub. With the exception of two part-time employees, Santa Barbara Meals On Wheels is an all-volunteer organization. The volunteer Board of Directors is composed of local residents, most of whom also deliver meals.
