Summary of Need: In this role you would be working with the Education Facilitator to create a class you would like to teach. All classes need to relate to parenting in some way. The class goal should either better the parent in some way, better their relationship to their child, and/or teach them about the world in relation to their child. Some examples of past classes taught are Shared Parenting, Vision Board class that they sent home to their child(ren), and a Social Media class. The options are endless! Hour Children will provide the necessary supplies if needed. Duties: Create the goal of the course. Create a syllabus that outlines how the class will be taught over several weeks Teach the class Create a safe and fun classroom environment

We currently have two quilters who lead the activity, and you would be helping the parents to make blankets and other cool quilting projects. The Birth Doula is a non-medical support person who provides physical and emotional support to a pregnant and laboring person in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Nursery program. A Birth Doula may also provide support to a partner or family member that is supporting the pregnant/laboring person. The Birth Doula will be assigned to one or more pregnant incarcerated individuals at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, in Bedford, NY. This position is not an employee of Hour Children or DOCCS. The consultant will work closely with and take direction from Hour Children’s Bedford Hills Director and other nursing staff. This is a paid independent contractor position.

Can you welcome a child or children into your home this summer? Each year Hour Children coordinates The Summer Program at Taconic and Bedford Hills Correctional Facilities and transports children from near and far so they can enjoy 4-5 days visiting with their Moms. Children range from age 6-17 Children stay with the host family for 4 or 5 nights The Host Families drop off the children at the facility each day at 8:45AM and pick is after 2:45 The Mothers and children enjoy this special time to connect and bond They share meals, play games and engage in structured and educational activities The children create long lasting bonds with each other, reducing the sense of shame and isolation Host Families will be screened and have a full orienation to ensure they are prepared and comfortable in hosting. Hour Children provides support to the Host Family throughout the process Host Families provide a much needed safe place for childrento spend the night when they come to visit their mothers and participate in Childrens's Center programs at Taconic & Bedford Correctional Facilities. The Host Famlies extension of kindness and hospitality strengthens the bond between a child and their incarcerated mother. Please contact us for more information and with any questions you may have. Summary of Need: In this role you would be helping our visitation program that takes place several times a month (mostly Saturdays). Hour Children transports unaccompanied minors (age 5-18) from all over New York to the facility to visit their parent. The program takes place in the Children's Center in the back of the Visiting Room. Duties: Help with serving the food to the children for breakfast, lunch, and ice cream sundaes. Assist families who need supplies/activities/games. Play games with the kids if asked. Help with clean up. Holiday & Mother’s Day Events assisting wherever needed.
