Mission Statement
We are committed to designing soothing, beautiful homes for women at the crossroads of leaving homeless shelters, halfway houses, and transitional housing programs. We offer completely free full-service delivery, installation, and staging of interior design items (furnishings, decor, art, bedding, kitchen supplies, toiletries, and food in the pantry) needed for their new permanent home. Our mission is to help women struggling with homelessness through interior design, because four walls alone do not make a home.
Description
Designed For Hope is a non-profit interior design organization with a mission to provide design services to homeless women and their children who might otherwise not have access to it. Audiences include women that exist at the intersection of a host of vulnerabilities, including but not limited to domestic violence, poverty, discrimination, housing insecurity, health and mental health issues, human trafficking, and PTSD in the Seattle area.
The audience includes women and their families that exist at the intersection of a host of vulnerabilities: including but not limited to domestic violence, poverty, discrimination, housing insecurity, health and mental health issues, human trafficking, and PTSD in the Seattle area.
Introducing homeless women and their families to a stable housing environment that includes soothing design has long-lasting effects that can impact health, education, and employment throughout their lives and in future generations:
- The likelihood of re-experiencing displacement or homelessness is decreased.
- In children, educational outcomes also improve with housing stability.
- Young people are less likely to repeat a grade and less likely to drop out of school and as they grow to adulthood, it inspires them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in.
- Increased financial stability by allowing funds to be used for other essential items.
