Mission Statement

To offer our students a progressive academic and social experience leading to a confident, positivist relationship with the world and all sentient beings that share it, and with the intellectual and interpersonal veracity to successfully take on the myriad challenges of both life and work.

Description

The Promontory Academy is starting life in August 2024 as a private micro-school for 6th and 7th grades. Within three to five years to become the school of choice for progressive 6th-12th education in the region, with a student body of up to 300, and expanding into our own campus space where we will continue with the micro-school model for our academics. We will be recognized as the model school for global citizenship, community engagement, real world learning, application, transfer, inclusion, agency, humane education and sustainability. Our development team consists of a few luminaries in the field of educational advancement; we have Aaron Moniz, co-founder and Director of Inspire Citizens, Dr. Elizabeth O. Crawford of UNC-Wilmington and co-author of the book Worldwise Learning, and Steve Cochrane, Executive Director of The Institute for Humane Education. Robert Heckerl, the founder of The Promontory Academy is an award-winning, 30-year veteran of international education, including 25 years with the U.S. Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Seoul, and with shorter sojourns into Kazakhstan, South-Central L.A., the Republic of Georgia, and Myanmar.
