Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect the afforestation areas, educate the public about the rich geological, natural, and cultural heritage of the areas and their ecological importance as places of rich biodiversity and semi-wildness within city limits.

Description

Being Inspired by the story of Richard St. Barbe Baker a community commitment grew to restore Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Areas and George Genereux Urban Regional Park -environmental bioblitzes to inventory the flora and fauna of the afforestation areas. This has helped document 20 species at risk and the extent of invasive species. We have been using iNaturalist as a tool for the same and educating participants about this tool. -Heritage tours relating to the start of the afforestation areas under the Green Survival Program, and the rich natural and cultural history of the areas and the people associated with them.

-GPS-based virtual interpretive app. It provides representative interpretive stories, messages, and facts which inform and stimulate an interest in the rich mosaic of cultural, historical, geological, human geographical features at specific locations.
