EGG & SPOON THEATRE COLLECTIVE INC

Description

Founded in 2017, we launched a three-show season. Spending nearly no money, and paying no one, we began to grow a network of artists and audiences that has continued to this day.

Post-pandemic we began investing more in our productions, typically doing one show per year in midtown Manhattan. Last year, without production of WHAT ELSE IS TRUE, we reached almost 900 New Yorkers, partnering with improv theaters, senior centers, and more. Through our INCUBATE NYC program, partly funded by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, we develop and present new plays in Queens and the Bronx, by writers of color who are from those boroughs. We strive to create a sense of neighborhood, field day, block party energy, emulating a kind of egg and spoon race (where we get our name).

Our goal is to increase our number of productions each year, and to expand our work in the boroughs (with free food!) so we can help cultivate a cultural hub in communities outside of Manhattan. And we need an expanded base of board members, funders and advocates in order to do that.
