Mission Statement

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention, and Charles R. Drew University will be co-hosting a Gun Violence Prevention Teach-In on October 23, 2023, from 8:30AM - 4PM to engage 200 - 300 students and healthcare providers on gun violence mobilization and prevention efforts, elevating gun violence as one of the most pressing issues of our time.

Description

The teach-in will focus on increasing awareness about gun violence and its impacts and how students, universities, and health professionals can support actionable prevention strategies. The event will include keynote speakers, panels, breakout sessions, and wellness activities that focus on conversations and build skills related to community organizing, restorative justice and peacebuilding, and health equity approaches to addressing violence.
