Administrative volunteers are needed to assist a variety of interdisciplinary employees at Gentiva Hospice Office. This may include general administrative duties as making care calls, filing, unpacking inventory, assisting with special projects, and running errands (if transportation is available). There may also be oppurtunities to engage with specifically with their area of discipline of social work, nursing, health communication, religious studies, etc. All volunteers do need to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

Veteran Companionship volunteers are needed to visit with and enrich the quality of life for fellow Veteran patients with a life-shortening diagnosis who are receiving hospice care. This program allows volunteers to be matched one on one with another veteran patient. The volunteer would simply offer companionship/friendship through regular visits. The volunteers can also set their own schedule that is convenient for both parties. Typically, a volunteer would make a companionship visit 2-4 times monthly for approx. 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Additionally, veteran volunteers may occasionally be called upon to make special "pinning" or "final salute" one time visits to assist in honoring a veteran with a framed certificate and pins. This is a wonderful way to make a difference for fellow veterans. This is an extremely meaningful and rewarding way.

Volunteers are needed to sit "vigil" by offering companionship, comfort, and emotional support to patients in their final hours of life. Support can be provided to patients who have no family to be with them or to provide support and guidance to families and caregivers by helping them. This may occur by just being a calm presence, talking and listening to family/caregivers, quietly playing recorded music, or just sharing the silence by holding a hand. Training will be provided to understand the dying process and help to support the patient and the family if present.
