Background: Church World Service (CWS) is a not-for-profit, international humanitarian assistance organization comprised of 37 Protestant and Orthodox denominations. The CWS NorCal Anti-Trafficking program launched services April 2 nd, 2024, treatment services provided intensive case management to survivors of human trafficking, as well as training and outreach to increase awareness and identification of survivors. Our goal is to help survivors regain control of their lives while finding their voices through a continuum of trauma-informed, culturally relevant, and gender responsive services to ensure their safety, security, and healing. SCOPE OF WORK The Anti-Trafficking Intern will play a key role in providing organizational support to the case management team to serve survivors of human trafficking who are struggling to navigate various systems to access resources and will advance efforts to build robust networks of community service providers. This internship offers valuable real-world experience in social work, advocacy, and social justice . Interns must commit 3 months and at least 15 hours per week , however CWS Northern California can accommodate students’ schedules and academic requirements to tailor the internship according to their education requirements. This is an unpaid position, but expenses related to the daily commute to and from the office may be reimbursed. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Gain case management experience by interacting with and assisting vulnerable clients. Acquire detailed knowledge of the US healthcare system. Learn reporting requirements for resettlement agencies and how to capture data to improve services. Learn or improve intercultural communication skills. Learn trauma informed care from a survivor perspective Learn Task Force operations · Intern will understand the push and full factors for children in patterns of forced migration. Learn Task Force Policy and procedures · knowledge of solution-oriented, strengths-based care coordination for survivors of human trafficking. · Intern will understand best practices for providing child-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive services. · Intern will develop skills such as problem solving, client services, and intercultural social work. · intern will learn how to manage direct service with documentation requirements. · intern will become familiar with document management systems, case notes and OVC report writing. · intern will become familiar with community partners, services and resources that are utilized to support trafficking survivors RESPONSIBILITIES Working under supervision, CWS interns will participate in all aspects of the services we provide including: Assess needs and priorities and work directly with CWS clients to create a service plan and deliver on-going case management. Guide clients to various appointments including appointments with lawyers, law enforcement, health care and public benefit providers. Engage in community mapping to identify and refer clients to external resources. Engage in community outreach activities to identify potential clients and increase CWS visibility. · Assist Senior Caseworker with client intake services, including but not limited to, needs assessments, safety planning and service planning · Provide direct services to clients and, if applicable, their families, including but not limited to, enrolling individuals in public benefits and making referrals to community partners · Communicate case statuses and client concerns to supervisor, coordinate service plans with supervisor · Participate In task force operations with team · Adhere to CWS policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy. · Administrative tasks as assigned. · Other tasks as assigned. Requirements: · Must pass a background check. · Minimum commitment of 3 months and at least 20 hours per week · Must be at least 18 years old · Must attend OVC (Office of Victims of Crime) Human Trafficking online training (assigned by supervisor) · Mandated reporter responsibility and must participate in ongoing supervision activities. · Ability to work in-person at least one day per week required. · Excellent communication and writing skills, including writing and grammar. · Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. · Able to work in a multi-cultural environment. · Proven ability to work independently and as a team member in a multi-cultural setting. · Willingness to use public transportation with clients to orient clients to buses, etc · Passionate and committed to learning about the broader CWS mission, global work, and local efforts. · Willing to adhere to CWS volunteer and workplace policies. · Cultural humility and sensitivity to this vulnerable population with a strong commitment to immigrant rights, social justice, and a strong desire to help survivors adjust to life in the U.S. Position Reports to: Senior Anti-Trafficking Caseworker CWS is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer. Get your friends and family together to pack Welcome Kits for people in need. Each backpack kit contains schools supplies, hygiene supplies a blanket, and treats, and are given to newly arrived refugees and survivors of trafficking. We provide you with a list of items, you buy them (and we can help you fundraise!), and then have a packing party at the location of your choice. We'll arrange to pick them off, or you can drop them off at our office. It's a fun way for you and your friends to make an impact for people in need.
