Seeking hardworking volunteers who want to get their hands dirty and spend time in nature for a good cause! Help us maintain our pollinator gardens, our herb and tea gardens, fruits and other perennial plants which thousands of students visit annually. Day and Time: Garden club is every Thursday from 4:30p-6p. Dates: Fall '24 Kick-off will be on Sep 5, 2024 and go until Dec. 5 Volunteers can come for one-time help, or even better - come weekly, make friends, and get to know our beautiful 33-acre farm, forest and trails (FYI, the part we maintain is just a very small section!). Volunteers MUST contact L to participate: No "drop-in's." You are welcome to come with friends or to bring a small group of 8 or less people. Qualifications: Be able to Understand instructions and work on your own or with a team with low supervision Be able to bend down, squat, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs Open to learning Families and Students: Adult volunteers may come with children only if the children are able to join in and/or be supervised by the adult the whole time. No more than 2 children under the age of 10 per adult. School students: must have an adult stay with them if age 14 or younger. Talk to L about getting signed off on your service hours! If you aren't a green thumb yet, but you want to to be - join us. And if you're an expert who can lend your expertise and teaching, we'll be grateful for it. Interested? Great Kids Farm offers in-school farm to classroom programming to pk through high school students in all Baltimore City Schools. In-school programs focus on farm to table cooking, planting, or tasting. Days, Times: Wednesdays, during school hours. Activities are 2 to 4 hours, depending on the number of classes we visit. Start and end times range from 8a to 4p. - We will check in with you and your schedule before assigning you to a program. - You will commit to one Wednesday in-school program a week for at least one season. Locations:Programs take place at Baltimore City Schools, so each Wednesday you'll be at a different site! Volunteer Roles:Assist with program set up and clean up including dishwashing if applicable. Give engage positively with, and assist small groups of students during cooking or planting tasks. Assist the flow of the program, assisting with tasks such as, set-up cleanup, and interacting with and helping students. If you're passionate/curious about working students of all ages and food education, then this position may be for you! More about the programs - We also have a popular tasting program for pk to 3rd grade that we call Garden Parties(that could involve dressing up as veggies for a skit). In-school programs bring a bit of the farm to schools and help teach students about where their food comes from, about nutrition and connect food and farms to ELA, social studies, science and other academic areas.

Great Kids farm offers free ag-tivity(agricultural activity) kits to all k-12 classrooms in Baltimore City Schools. Drivers choose just 2 days a month to help deliver! You will pick up the boxes of kits at our site on weekdays during school hours to make deliveries to 1 to 3 schools at a time. Schools are all located in Baltimore City. The boxes range from <1 pound to just a few pounds. More About the Kits: These kits allow us to increase our educational impact by providing teachers with self-led farm to school opportunities. We have a variety of ag-tivity kits, such as an aquaponics kit, an herb garden kit, a chick hatching kit, and many more! We are currently looking for volunteer drivers to deliver these kits from Great Kids farm in Catonsville to various schools in Baltimore City. With this opportunity, we work with you to set up the monthly schedule which works for you!

Currently seeking out-going and fun-loving Field Trip Volunteers to assist with our 2024 Fall field trips - Dates: - New volunteer training _Thurs Sep. 5, 9a-1p - Volunteer Season: Week of Sep. 12 to week of Dec. 2. Days/Times: Choose 1 day per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, 9a-1p. Event Overview:In the fall and spring Baltimore City Schools K to 5th grade students come to our 33 acre outdoor learning laboratory to engage in hands-on, real world farm-based and culinary experiences. We run additional programs for students of all ages from schools for students with special needs. Volunteer Roles:As a volunteer, you'll help with field trip set-up and clean up, assist our educators in teaching experiential lessons with our plants and animals and on our trails, engage with the students, have fun answering student questions and guiding conversations with them during lunch, and help prep food in our commercial kitchen for student tastings. Volunteers must commit 1 day per week over a minimum of 2 months to receive training and join our student programs. Come join the fun! During the spring and fall, Great Kids Farm offers school animal visits. During each visit, we take goats, chickens and a turkey to a school (typically pk to 5th gr) and students meet our animals, and learn more about where animal based food products come from. Time: Thursdays, 9:30am to 12:30pm including set up and clean up time. Dates: You would start training at Great Kids Farm in September and start weekly school visits in October to December. Requirements: A vehicle to either get to either Great Kids Farm in Catonsville (where we will leave to go to the school together between 8:40 and 9 am) or to the school itself by 9:30am. respectively; Abilityt to speak to groups of 10 to 15 students at a time. Activities: As an animal visit volunteer, you assist our farm manager and lead educator teach students and manage the animals. This entails helping with the set-up of pens, handling of our animals(4 goats, 2 chickens, and a turkey per visit), and interpreting the animals with students ranging from pk to 8th grade. The main focus of this volunteer opportunity is student interaction for. So, if you're passionate/curious about working with elementary students and farm animals, this opportunity may be for you!
