Description
The Charles Allis and Villa Terrace Art Museums, historic mansions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, are twin pillars of art overseen by a unified organization.
Charles Allis Art Museum, built in 1911, was the residence of Charles Allis, first president of Allis-Chalmers Corporation. This Tudor-style mansion showcases an extensive collection of artworks from various eras, including 19th-century French and American paintings and Asian ceramics, reflecting Charles and Sarah Allis' tastes.
Villa Terrace Decorative Art Museum, inspired by Renaissance villas and built in 1923, was Lloyd Smith's home, affiliated with A.O. Smith Corporation. It boasts decorative arts from the 15th to 18th centuries, a Renaissance Garden, and wrought-iron pieces by Cyril Colnik. Its terraced garden overlooks Lake Michigan.
