Childcare Volunteer - join our Hope Corps!

Generation Hope is looking for caring individuals who love children to volunteer with our Hope Corps and provide childcare to our Scholars' children at our programming events. We regularly host various programming events for our Scholars (teen parents in college) throughout the year, all on Saturdays, and we provide free childcare at each event. We are currently seeking volunteers to offer on-site childcare (with children's parents nearby) for each of these gatherings. This year's events that will offer childcare and require volunteers are: Saturday, November 9, 9am - 1pm Saturday, March 15, 9am - 1pm May 30 - June 1: weekend event in Loranger, LA All volunteers 18+ must have a background check on file in order to volunteer. If you are unsure whether you have a background check on file, please reach out to Pia Debose at pia@generationhope.org. In addition, all childcare volunteers must complete Generation Hope's 1-hour Childcare Volunteer Training Webinar, available here ( Please note: that the training will indicate a commitment to three events per year to be part of our Hope Corps volunteer program, however, if you do not want to commit to three events per year you can simply leave that checkbox blank on the volunteer agreement). Once you sign up to volunteer, if you have not volunteered with us before, someone from our team will give you a call to ensure you are able to access the training and to answer any questions you have! Mentor A Teen Parent in College at Generation Hope!

Fewer than 2% of teen mothers who have a baby before age 18 earn a college degree before age 30. At Generation Hope, we’re changing these statistics one family & one system at a time - and YOU can help. Become a Generation Hope New Orleans Mentor today! You’ll be matched one-on-one with one of our Scholars, all tenacious teen parents pursuing their college degrees, and invest in their success. Throughout their college career, you will meet with your Scholar monthly and build a caring, supportive relationship. Mentors contribute either $1,200/year ($100 monthly) for a community college student or $2,400/year ($200 monthly) for a student at a four-year college, which goes straight to your Scholar’s tuition. We welcome mentors from all walks of life and all backgrounds-all you need is a big heart and a desire to help a young parent in our community succeed. Generation Hope empowers student parents to achieve success, economic mobility, and wealth-building through systemic change and holistic, two-generation support. Our Scholars need academic support to succeed in their studies - to that end, we match any tutor with an academic need to a volunteer tutor, who provides either in-person or virtual tutoring support. We’re looking for volunteers with expertise in college subjects: specifically in Biology, English, Mathematics, and Health Sciences.

To ensure all student parents have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility, Generation Hope engages education and policy partners to drive systemic change and provides direct support to teen parents in college as well as their children through holistic, two-generation programming.

Description

Our Scholar Program surrounds teen parents with mentoring, tuition assistance, a peer community, and other vital, wrap-around services. Generation Hope Scholars graduate at a rate that is double the rate for low-income college students and eight times the rate for single mothers nationwide. As alumni, they are working in fields ranging from computer engineering to education.
