Mission Statement

Theater is essential. Art is essential. Storytelling is essential. Plays Of Wilton Inc. at The Foundry, a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation under the direction of Ronnie Larsen, is an LGBT arts production organization focused on theater and storytelling in multiple mediums. Our goal at POW! is to create work that is relevant and timely. Because the world is constantly changing, we want to be able to address those changes in the moment and change direction to reflect what is happening in the world. Serving a diverse and marginalized community is our main focus. Openly LGBT people don’t exist in in the theater until around the mid-20th century. Writing a play or making a movie where an LGBT character is front and center is still a revolutionary act. Every time an LGBT playwright writes a play, they are pushing us into the future. The work we do is important. It is unique. It is timely. It is relevant. It is complicated. It is underfunded. It is expensive and it needs to be supported.

Description

Plays of Wilton, Inc. (POW!) encourages and supports LGBTQ+ playwrights and their timely and relevant productions.

POW! serves a diverse and marginalized community as its main focus. Every time an LGBTQ+ production gets staged, many aspects of LGBTQ+ life and the community get presented to the general public. POW! is the catalyst to accomplish this goal.

Starting in 2019, Pow was formed with the sole purpose of supporting LGBTQ plays and playwrights/. POW enables the production of plays that are timely and relevant. POW serves a diverse and marginalized community that often does net see its lives displayed an explored in popular mainstream entertainment/ Every production with LGBTQ themes creates an opportunity for members and nonmembers of the LGBTQ community to learn, grow and understand this underrepresented community.

Over the past five years, POW has been involved in approximately 35 productions at The Foundry theater. Over this time, we have become the theater company in South Florida that produces the most LBTQ themed entertainment. WE are also proud of the fact that we presented many productions that did not include LBTQ content but was created by LQBTQ artists. Last year only four other companies garnered more awards and they all have a much longer history than POW.
