Mission Statement
The Gresham Historical Society preserves and shares our community's past to enrich its present and future.
Description
GHS was founded by volunteers in 1976, at a time of rapid urban growth in our community. In 1989 we moved into the 1913 Gresham Carnegie Library, which became the Gresham History Museum, our home and headquarters. Our historic collections include over 12,000 items that document and illustrate aspects of local heritage up to the present day. We make these items available to researchers and feature them in rotating public exhibitions. We receive funds from a Multnomah County property tax levy, which voters approved in 2010 and have generously renewed every five years since; levy funds pay the salary of a full-time director who oversees a team of around 50 excellent volunteers. We also receive support from a variety of grants and from business and individual donors. Our vision is to be a center for the community where all may gather to learn and find inspiration in the history and culture of the Gresham area.
