Mission Statement
Mayor Dyer’s Cities of Service Initiative: Orlando Cares was implemented by the Office of Community Affairs to engage residents and partners with volunteer programs in many city departments. Orlando Cares builds community by encouraging citizen volunteers to dedicate their time, talent, and compassion to make Orlando the hometown in which we all want to live, work, and play. By participating in City of Orlando programs and learning about local government, citizen volunteers help shape the future of Orlando and transform lives and neighborhoods.
Description
Orlando is a proud member of the Cities of Service Coalition and is one of only 20 cities in the nation to receive a Cities of Service Leadership Grant in 2010, funded jointly by the Rockefeller Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies to develop a high-impact service plan. By joining the Cities of Service Coalition, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer had the foresight to engage Orlando in a nation-wide effort to achieve the goals of the historic Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Through this landmark legislation, all Americans have been called to volunteer their time to address their community’s pressing challenges.
