Mobile Technology Class Volunteer Instructor--Senior Education Program

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organization, ACCO is seeking passionate volunteers to help provide a range of social services to underserved Asian seniors in the NYC and nearby communities. As part of our Senior Education Program, w e are looking for volunteers who can teach Mobile Technology Class virtually to seniors in our community. Service Impact: Our Mobile Technology Class is specifically designed to equip senior participants with the skills they need to thrive in today's digital world. As the instructor, you will play a vital role in supporting and empowering our senior community. Skills required: · Proficiency in mobile technology (smartphones and tablets) and knowledge of relevant mobile applications. · Familiarity with the basic functionalities of WeChat. · Proficiency in Mandarin & basic English reading skills. · Responsible & respectful towards elderly members. Schedule: 8-10 classes per session, 1 hr per class, weekly over Zoom. We expect volunteers to commit to at least 1 full session. Volunteer Hours Offered: 4+ hours per class, including preparations & post-class engagement in seniors' WeChat learning group. (Optional) 3+ hours for each tutorial video produced. Task Description: 1. Plan class content using resources provided by ACCO or your own resources. 2. Begin each class with a warm-up conversation to engage the learners and set a positive tone. 3. Post key teaching materials in WeChat learning group after each class and encourage seniors to practice. 4. (Optional) Produce tutorial videos for post-class engagement. What We Offer: 1. Volunteer Graphic Designer -- Senior Community Programs & Events (Bilingual Chinese)

We are looking for volunteers who can be the graphic designer (flyers, posters, brochures, certificates, etc.) for our senior community events, social benefits program, and community lecture. Service Impact: Your services will help deliver valuable health-related info and social benefits programs to our community members, fostering a sense of community and well-being. Skills required: Basic graphic design skills (Adobe Photoshop or other software) Basic Chinese communication skills (verbal, reading, writing) Responsible and respectful towards elderly members Schedule: Flexible. Tasks will be assigned based on the schedule of our community programs. The estimated frequency is 1 task per month. Once a task is assigned, we expect volunteers to complete it within one week (including first draft, feedback & revisions, and final version). Social Service - Affordable & Senior Housing Application Assistance

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organization, ACCO is seeking passionate volunteers to help provide a range of social services to underserved Asian seniors in the NYC and nearby communities. We are looking for volunteers who can assist seniors in applying for affordable housing through NYC's two major affordable housing application portals: NYCHA and Housing Connect. Service Impact: Your assistance will help seniors overcome language/tech barriers & find affordable housing in NYC, fostering a sense of security, stability, belonging, and well-being. Skills required: Bilingual communication skills in English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) Responsible and respectful towards elderly members Maintain confidentiality and adhere to client consent & data protection guidelines. Schedule: Flexible. We expect volunteers to respond to at least 1 service request (around 2-3 hr) per week, for at least 2 months. Volunteer Hours Offered: 3+ hours upon completion of each community member's request Task Description: Use the guides and resources we provide to familiarize yourself with NYC's affordable housing application portals: NYCHA and Housing Connect. Outreach the community member using ACCO community hotline, acquire their consent to our service, inform them of the application materials to be prepared, and schedule a virtual assistance session with them to fill out the application form. We are looking for volunteers to outreach seniors in our community, learn about their current conditions & pressing needs, and introduce our community services to them. Service Impact: Your assistance will keep us informed of our community members' evolving needs and engage them in community programs that can improve their health & well-being. Skills required: 1. Proficiency in Mandarin/Cantonese & basic English speaking and reading skills 2. Excellent communication skills & ability to understand seniors’ social needs 3. Responsible and respectful towards elderly members Schedule: Flexible. We expect volunteers to conduct at least 8 outreach (around 1-2 hr) per week. Volunteer Hours Offered: 15+ min for each outreach effort, whether successful or not. Task Description: 1. Contact community members through ACCO Community Hotline. 2. Asian Community Care Organization (ACCO) is a peer-driven, community-based nonprofit organization that improves the health and well-being of underserved Asian community members, especially seniors, through advocacy, services, and referrals.

Description

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, ACCO plays a crucial role in addressing the health-related social needs of the local Asian community. With our compassion, innovation, and commitment, we strive to help people live better lives and build a stronger community.

We offer a range of services and collaborate with over 60 partners to help our members assess their social needs and navigate available community resources, including food assistance and housing. Additionally, we work with local health home programs to provide remote and home-based care management services, improving the quality of life for those we serve.

We offer an innovative tool for seniors to easily monitor their physical and mental health parameters through our WeCare Communicator mobile app. We engage them in health seminars, promoting preventive care services, mental health, healthy diet, chronic disease management, etc. to reduce risks that contribute to unnecessary visits to the emergency room and/or hospitalization.
