Mission Statement
40% of all food produced in the US goes to waste every year, while over 40 million people experience food insecurity. Our mission is to bridge the gap between excess and scarcity by partnering with grocery stores, restaurants, wholesalers, and farmers to deliver surplus food to a network of nonprofits, food banks, and community organizations to alleviate local food insecurity.
Description
Sharing Excess is a food rescue Non-profit started in Philadelphia in 2018 by a Drexel student. Since then we have grown to do some big things...
10,050,698 POUNDS OF FOOD RESCUED SINCE 2018
That’s roughly equivalent to 330 full-size tractor trailers worth of food, or 571 school busses, or 180 humpback whales, or 1515 orca whales... take your pick!
$19,585,300 TOTAL RETAIL VALUE OF FOOD RESCUED
This is all value that we’re proud to get back in the hands of the communities we serve, instead of letting it go to waste in a landfill.
36,785,554 POUNDS OF CO2 DIVERTED
Food waste accounts for about 8% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest contributor to global warming.
