Mission Statement
The proposed study will cross disciplines of neuroscience, health, and technology to investigate the effects of a targeted, simultaneous physical and cognitive activity intervention on brain health and cognition. Overall, results from this study may provide evidence for a combined intervention to enhance cognition and brain health in adults at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
Description
Virtual Reality Study Overview
The Interventions for Brain Health Virtual Reality Study is a NIH-funded clinical research trial at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Health under the supervision of the study principal investigator Dr. Judy Pa.
The goal of this trial is to use a novel virtual reality (VR) based intervention that simultaneously engages physical and cognitive activity aimed at improving brain health and cognition in older adults. The investigators will compare 3 types of interventions: 'combined VR physical and cognitive activity’, 'physical activity only’, and 'VR cognitive activity only’ over 16 weeks (3 days a week) to evaluate physical and brain health changes.
No previous virtual reality experience is required to participate. We do primarily look for people who are local and have no problem coming to and from USCD's Health Campus frequently. The study calls for participants to join us at our on-campus lab 3 days a week for the course of 16 weeks .
