Mission Statement

CAP provides equitable access to services that help people meet their basic needs. In alliance with our partners, CAP empowers SW Washington community members to overcome poverty and remain independent.

Description

Community Action Programs were established in 1964. That same year a small group of concerned citizens in Cowlitz County came together to form Lower Columbia CAP.

  • Lower Columbia CAP continues to work to realize the original vision of our founders: "Building healthy communities one family at a time." This goal is accomplished by feeding the hungry, caring for the elderly, and helping families get jobs and become responsible homeowners. All of the work done by Lower Columbia CAP is done while keeping in mind its core values: Compassion, Cooperation, Diversity, Integrity and Respect and by keeping an eye on its broader vision of "A world free of poverty, hunger and injustice."
  • Community action programs provide a more holistic approach to issues of poverty by addressing a number of the barriers that people face when attempting to move beyond poverty. Therefore, Lower Columbia CAP has a wide array of services under one umbrella including Energy and Housing, Career and Family Development and Community Services (including nutritional and care services for our most vulnerable populations).
