Kaiser Permanente Hospice Volunteers are unique people who have special places in their hearts that motivate them to provide voluntary services to our Hospice patients and their family members. Hospice Volunteers are thoroughly trained in hospice care and are members of the Interdisciplinary Care Team. Hospice Volunteers are trained in infection control and equipped with proper PPE to conduct socially distanced in-person visits with patients and their families. Volunteer tasks may also include: Giving relief to family caregivers in the home to allow them some special time to rest and relax. Running errands and grocery shopping. Sharing a hobby or interest. Reading to the patient, writing letters or cards, and making telephone calls. Preparing light meals and menu planning. Listening to music together. Visiting with the patient and family.

Hospice Volunteers who are Veterans have the life-changing honor of supporting a military Veteran in the end of life journey. Veteran Volunteers visit Veteran patients to provide companionship, engage in life review, and provide caregiver support. Veteran Volunteers are essential members of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Group, working together while supporting patients and families throughout Orange County. Veteran Volunteers have a special role in coordinating and facilitating Veteran Pinning Ceremonies and other recognition for our Veteran patients. Veteran Volunteers who enjoy singing and/or playing music would be wonderful additions to our Team! Kaiser Permanente Hospice Volunteers are thoroughly trained in hospice care as well as infection control and are equipped with proper PPE to conduct socially distanced in-person visits with patients and their families. Volunteer tasks may also include: Giving relief to family caregivers in the home to allow them some special time to rest and relax. Running errands and grocery shopping. Sharing a hobby or interest. What is hospice care?
Hospice is for people who are near the end of their life. It provides treatment to relieve symptoms. The goal is to keep you comfortable, not to try to cure your disease. Hospice care does not speed up or lengthen dying. It focuses on easing pain and other symptoms.
Hospice care also offers emotional help and spiritual support when you are dying. And it helps caregivers manage the practical details and emotional challenges of caring for someone who is dying.
Some people think that starting hospice is a last resort, that it means they're giving up on life. Some think that hospice means a lower level of medical care. But hospice is simply a type of care that focuses on the quality of your life instead of on continuing with treatment to prolong your life.
