Mission Statement

Supporting research targeting safe, effective treatments for children with rare brain cancers and assisting affected families. Collaborating globally to promote awareness of research, resources, and treatments related to childhood brain cancers.

Description

Tali’s Fund was established in loving memory of Tal Esther Doron, who died at age 4 after a brave struggle with ATRT, a rare and aggressive brain tumour. Tali touched the lives of so many in her 4 short years, and she continues to be a source of inspiration. Brain tumours are the 2nd most common type of cancer in children, and the leading cause of cancer related death in children and youth under age 20. Rare cancers contribute disproportionately to childhood cancer related death and disability, with high death rates and high risk of toxic treatment effects. Tali’s Fund supports researchers who are working to move us closer to the day when children suffering from rare brain cancers can receive safe and effective treatments. Studying rare brain tumours can also provide valuable insights for more common types of childhood brain tumours as well as other cancers in both children and adults. Since 2008, Tali’s Fund has facilitated great strides. Funds have been directed to a research team at SickKids hospital in Toronto, mobilizing the largest global collaborative study of ATRTs involving over 40 countries, which is currently ongoing. Tali’s Fund also helps support an international online registry for rare brain tumours, & collaborates with other organizations to promote awareness of resources related to childhood brain cancers. While our work was inspired by devastating circumstances, it is our mission to help ensure that fewer families will have to live through such trauma.
