Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver more than food; they’re the deliverers of hope. They’re just like you, concerned about our senior neighbors for whom a daily meal would otherwise be unavailable without the help of their "other family" - their volunteers. All it takes is one to two hours once week at lunchtime, delivering to a handful of homebound folks from a site in your Pinellas County neighborhood. Can't make a regular commitment? Love older adults and speak Spanish? If you're 60 or older and speak conversational Spanish, why not join a senior diner for companionship at our Seminole cafe a weekday or two for lunch, with lunch on us? Neighborly provides Pinellas County seniors with a nutritious lunch and activities five days a week. Choose your day or days; female companion requested! *We welcome those 59 and younger (meal available for a small fee, if you wish to have ours). Just complete our online volunteer application and choose any orientation (please add a note at the end of the application you'd like to be a companion at the Seminole cafe). After orientation, we'll place you at the site where the staff will pair you with the client and make arrangements for your meal (voluntary contributions welcome but not required). Seniors all across Pinellas County have no way to get to their medical appointments and pharmacies which leads to poor health outcomes and increased isolation. Driving seniors to often life-saving appointments is among the most rewarding volunteer opportunities at Neighborly, and your impact is immediate. Since we can't provide rides to every senior, your help ensures more get the care they urgently need. In just four hours per week, you can choose the day(s), hours and locations within Pinellas County where you can help. No lifting or wheelchairs! With your cheerful demeanor, vehicle, and clean driving record and background, together we’ll prepare you for this rewarding position! Did you know music can evoke memories otherwise forgotten in memory-challenged seniors? Neighborly provides the therapeutic benefit of music to clients served at three Adult Day Centers, and for higher-functioning seniors at eight dining cafes. Entertainers can include musicians (non-religious music only), singers, clowns, or magicians. Choose the location (s) convenient for you, weekdays from late morning to noon or 1-2pm.
