Event Staff volunteers for StandUp for Kids San Diego support our mission to end the cycle of youth homelessness by helping to plan and facilitate fundraising and other community awareness events. Working together with the Community Engagement and Development Coordinator, Event Staff volunteers help plan and run various events, including procuring items needed for events, setting up and taking down booths and displays, taking photos and engaging with event attendees. Must have good organizational skills, be resourceful and have strong communication skills. May need to be able to volunteer during weekdays and/or on weekends. Prior experience is a plus but not necessary; training is provided.

Outreach Center Volunteers for StandUp for Kids - San Diego support our homeless youth and on-the-street kids at our Outreach Center in Downtown San Diego. Volunteers chose one evening a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays) to provide services from 5-8pm. Volunteers serve food; provide resources such as clothing, shoes and hygiene items; oversee access to laundry and shower facilities; and offer counseling for our youth in need. Outreach Center Volunteers may also be involved in street outreach initiatives. Prior experience is a bonus but not necessary; training is provided.

Outreach Center Supervisors for StandUp for Kids - San Diego oversee the operations of the Outreach Center during Center hours of 5-8pm. We are in need of an experienced Center Supervisor for Saturday evenings. The Supervisor oversees Center Volunteers in providing services and resources to our youth in need, conducts intake on new youth visiting our center for the first time, coordinates Volunteer schedules to ensure sufficient trained staff are available, and interacts with and counsels our homeless youth. The Supervisors are also part of the local Leadership Team. Services offered at the Center include hot meals ; clothing, shoes and hygiene items; laundry and shower facilities; and counseling for our youth in need. Ideally we are looking for volunteers with experience in leadership roles in non-profit organizations for these roles. Training is provided.

Interns receive an experience that goes far beyond a traditional internship. STANDUP FOR KIDS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, founded in 1990 to help rescue homeless and at-risk youth. STANDUP FOR KIDS targets homeless and at-risk youth and young adults age 25 and younger. Qualifications: Internet Savvy Highly organized, detail oriented (ability to manage multiple projects/responsibilities) EXCELLENT written and verbal communication skills General knowledge of document management tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, Indesign or Photoshop) Self-starter approach, with ability to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility as time permits Time Commitment: Minimum of 10 hours per week, primarily work from home, with occasional meetings expected. Grant Writer (Volunteer) StandUp for Kids - San Diego was launched in 1990 with a single focus: to end the cycle of youth homelessness in our community. We work to provide basic needs, housing, mentoring support, care, and love to at-risk and homeless youth ages 12-24. We are looking for a Volunteer Grant Writer to work in conjunction with the Executive Director to increase our grant writing efforts for competitive corporate, foundation and government awards. This is a great opportunity to donate time, resources, and talent to support our important mission. As a Grant Writer, you will: · Develop and write letters of inquiry and proposals in response to solicitations for our state and county that include but are not limited to city, state, and federal agencies as well as private foundations · Manage full range of the grants processes with the Grants Chair including identification/qualification of opportunities, development of responses and financial reports · Take an active role in the identification of private funders and in the research and development of grant proposals to foundations and corporations that have potential to support new and ongoing program initiatives · Prepare customized proposals according to each foundation’s guidelines, including: program budgets, timelines, goals, objectives, outcomes, and evaluation criteria for grants with the Executive director and Grants Chair · Assist Grants Chair with researching foundations · Organize standard attachments including but not limited to the organization’s Board of Directors list, bylaws, 501(c)(3) letter of determination, and most recent financial audit · Work with the Executive Director and program staff to produce funder reports in a timely and effective fashion · Assist the Executive Director in maintaining a strong and positive relationship with current and prospective grant funders through letter, email and phone correspondence · Work with staff to gain insight into local foundations and to gather local data/information about individual communities Qualifications: · Grant writing experience preferred but not required · Knowledge of non-profit funding sources preferred but not required · Excellent written/verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment · Ability to plan/manage work flow on multiple projects simultaneously, and work with limited supervision · Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) · Proofreading skills essential · Strong attention to detail · Flexible and strong work ethic · Desire to make a difference and be part of a unique not-profit organization Job Type: · Volunteer position · Remote, with occasional in-person events and/or meetings (Covid-19 safety protocols apply) Time Commitment: · Minimum 5 hours per week (volunteers are responsible for tracking their hours and sending them to the Executive Director at the end of each month) Additional Requirements: · Background check ($18 submission fee) · StandUp for Kids volunteers’ orientation Please use this online form to apply.
