Mission Statement
Kids Cooking For Life teaches nutrition and inspires lifelong healthy cooking and eating habits through hands-on cooking classes to at-risk students, including those from low-income communities and those with special needs. KCL empowers Bay Area kids and teens with nutritional knowledge and cooking skills for their lifelong health and well-being.
Description
Kids Cooking for Life was founded in 2009 to combat kids' growing reliance on processed foods and the corresponding increase in obesity. KCL has now taught more than 10,000 students at more than 100 schools and organizations across the entire Bay Area. Additionally, we have developed new ways of reaching kids in need, including our teacher training program and virtual classes.
Our curriculum has grown to encompass not only physical health, but mental and behavioral health as well. We also help turn kids’ textbook knowledge into reality, enhancing their quality of life and promoting myriad academic skills, including: math skills (counting, measuring, calculating fractions); literacy and English language skills (reading the recipes), reinforcement of scientific concepts; and history, geography and culture preparing global recipes.
