BOARD DIRECTOR The Board of Directors of ACCESS Community Capital Fund ("ACCESS") is seeking a qualified and passionate individual to join its Board. We're seeking applicants from all backgrounds to ensure we get the best, most creative talent and create a team that reflects the diversity of our client base. ACCESSis a registered charity established to help promising entrepreneurs with viable business plans gain access to financing and business training. Individual loans are made using a character-based lending decision, where the abilities, skills and commitment of the applicant, in conjunction with the strength of the business plan are key decision criteria. ACCESS is committed to helping people achieve their potential and collaborates with over 70 community partners. ACCESS conducts information and training sessions across the GTA, and the training resources, such as business coaching, workshops and financial literacy training, help ensure ACCESS clients have the resources they need to succeed in their business. ACCESSinvestment funds are used to guarantee loans through partner financial institutions. The fund was created by investments from socially minded individuals, organizations and businesses. ACCESSclients are typically entrepreneurs who have been running a business less than two years, just starting a new business, or require financing for professional development. The borrower may have no credit history or may have a poor credit record due to unemployment, illness or unforeseen life events. ROLE OVERVIEW: ACCESS is seeking volunteers to join its Board of Directors as it undergoes its next stage of transformation and growth. We are seeking passionate individuals to take on an important role in governing the organization, determining its strategic direction, and fundraising to support its mission and programs. We are interested in hearing from committed individuals who will be actively involved in the organization, bringing fresh ideas and additional skills sets. Building strong relationships and goodwill in the community, including donors, community partners, volunteers and clients, is a vital part of serving on ACCESS’ Board. The prospective Director will be expected to: · Demonstrate commitment to ACCESS’ mandate · Fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of a director of a registered charity · Have strong communication and collaboration skills · Serve on a Committee of the Board based on their expertise and skills GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: · Serve, at a minimum, a two-year term · Regularly attend all Board and Committee meetings. The Board generally meets five times per year for 1-2 hours each meeting (or more often, when required); NOTE: Frequency of Committee meetings varies. (Meetings are held virtually via Zoom and in person in Toronto, Ontario, as determined by the Board.) · Prepare for meetings by reviewing the meeting agenda and supporting documentation · Participate actively in all meetings · Actively promoting the fundraising efforts of the organization by introducing your network to the organization to help generate outside contributions or making a personal financial contribution to the organization · Be available to serve on at least one Committee of the Board · Be available to consult with the Executive Director, as required HOW TO APPLY: Qualified candidates are invited to submit a resume and a cover letter to the Board Co-Chairs at admin@accessccf.com by 11:59 pm on July 5 th, 2024. Are you a recent graduate from a business, marketing, or finance program trying to build up your resume?If you answered YES to any of these questions, ACCESS needs you! Business Coach (Topic Specific & Business Plan Review) ACCESS Business Coaches play an important role in supporting clients who need help in developing and refining their business plans as well as developing specific skills to run their business more effectively. They facilitate small group topic-specific sessions and work one-to-one with clients. Business Coaches work with clients from the very early planning stages of their business as well as providing ongoing support as clients launch and grow their businesses. Upon receiving coaching, eligible participants have the opportunity to apply for a small business loan through the ACCESS Community Capital Fund. Related Skills & Experience: Hands-on experience as a business owner/entrepreneur, with startups or advising small businesses and/or subject matter expertise relevant to supporting small business owners (e.g. online marketing, sales, product development, social media, accounting, etc.). Strong interpersonal and communication skills. A good listener, empathetic, patient, non-judgmental, objective and client-centric. Awareness of and/or interest/experience working with low-income and culturally diverse communities. Second language an asset. Commitment: A minimum of 12 months involvement with ACCESS.
