Mission Statement
Ohio Invention League has a mission to inspire curiosity, confidence and creative problem solving in out youth and advance invention and entrepreneurial education. We envision a day when every child, regardless of gender, race, religion or socioeconomic background, has the chance to follow his/her natural curiosity, invent creative solutions to problems and be inspired to achieve his/her highest level of personal accomplishment.
Description
Ohio Invention League is the Ohio affiliate of Invention Convention Worldwide. Invention Convention is a year-round STEM / STEAM program that encourages K-12 students to be life long problem solvers. Students self select a problem in their life or community and use the invention process to design and create a prototype that solves the problem. The inventors then use communication and entrepreneurial skills to present their inventions to mentors and judges.
Volunteers are needed to:
- Mentor. This year round program helps mentor students who are preparing for competition and/or needed help with an invention.
- Judge online video submissions. These volunteers review and score online videos based on a judging rubric. This is specific to the month of May each year.
- Judge online. These volunteers are online with an Ohio Invention League moderator, another judge, and a small group of students. Students present their invention to the team of judges and other students. Two judges will collaborate to score the invention based on a judging rubric. This is specific to the month of June. Sessions are in the evening and on weekends to accommodate work schedules.
