Mission Statement
My Ugandan Child's mission is tackling extreme poverty and advancing inclusive growth in Uganda's rural region of Kasese. We house and educate vulnerable youth and try to offer the community access to learn new skills.
Description
My Ugandan Child was formed when a group of students started reflecting on the question that communities used to ask them whenever they came for holidays. That question was "what have you brought for us?"
The five students recognised their obligation to give back to the communities and share what they had learned, giving rise to ideas of empowerment, rural development and community focus. This was in 2003, and by 2005 MyUC got registered as a local community-based organisation (CBO) with the Kasese District Local Government.
The family spirit of our team has been increasing as our goals advanced, paralleled by a high transparency of the decision-making process and actions. Accountability, capacity building and increasing opportunities for all are central values to MyUC.
We all form a committed group of people running the projects being implemented in Kasese. The needs of the communities are very elevated, but the resources are limited. My Ugandan Child still has much work to do.
