Veteran to Veteran Volunteer

We Honor Veterans Community Home Care and Hospice is seeking volunteers for a variety of positions which include everything from Companionship Volunteers to helping with administrative duties in our offices. Training will be provided. We Honor Veterans serves as an additional support to patients whom are Veterans and, families dealing with a terminal illness and end-of-life issues. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship and socialization to patients. We offer pinning ceremonies and certificates bedside to our Veteran Patients. Our volunteers provide companionship at a patient’s bedside, to running errands, and from assisting with creating gifts for patients and their families. Hold a hand, share a story Make phone calls Listen, read, or sing Make gifts for patients Run errands or perform light housekeeping Share flowers, bake, or garden Send a card We currently have patients in: Troy Star Biscoe Albemarle Norwood Locust Richfield China Grove

Companionship Volunteer for Hospice Patients and Families Companionship volunteers are needed to visit with and enrich the quality of ife for a patient with life-shortening diagnosis who is receiving hospice care. This program allows volunteers to be matched one on one with a patient. The volunteer will be able to choose various ways to offer kindness through companionship, which may include conversation, reading, music, and simply watching a television program with the patient or sitting and holding their hand. The volunteer canalso seth their schedule that is convenient for both parties. Typically, a companionship visit is 2 to 4 times a month, for approximately 30 minutues for up to 2 hours, depending on your availibility and the pt need. Additionally, visits could involve helping families by offering respite time, to allow the family to run errands, help with light housework, or helping to prepare meals. Whether you are retired, a student, or just want to make a difference for others, this is an extremely meaningful and rewarding way to contribute to others and to your community.
