Mission Statement
The mission statement of Habitat for Humanity International is "seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope." The vision of Habitat for Humanity International is "a world where everyone has a decent place to live."
Description
Habitat for Humanity brings people together with a "hand up, not a hand out" model of service. Volunteer service is the foundation that allows Habitat to continue serving the Kerr County community. With a little help, Habitat homeowners are able to achieve the strength and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves and their families. Having a decent, affordable place to live can create a situation where homeowners save more, invest in education, pursue opportunity and have more financial stability.
Habitat for Humanity Kerr County is set up as a non-profit organization, construction company, mortgage company, and retailer. The construction activity of Habitat for Humanity Kerr County is how we provide affordable new homes. Most of the construction labor is performed by volunteers. Habitat Kerr County sells each home at cost and provides an interest-free note. Our ReStore is a resale store that sells building materials and home goods. It has become increasingly more important to the success of Habitat for Humanity Kerr County. Currently, the profit from our ReStore supplement the mortgage payments to cover all of the operating expenses of doing Habitat’s business. In FY2022, 363 volunteers contributed 5,983 hours of service building homes for family partners earning 40% - 60% of Kerr County’s median income.
