Hospice Veteran to Veteran Volunteer

We are looking for Veteran Volunteers who want to make a difference in a Veteran's life. There are no special skills required just a desire to make a difference. The goal of Veteran volunteer recruitment is to engage the larger Veteran community in improving end-of-life care of Veterans. A Veteran to Veteran Volunteer provides a bond to other veterans like no one else can. How you serve is completely up to you!! Here are a few examples: -Provide companionship and emotional support to fellow Veterans and their caregivers. -Provide respite (sitting with the Veteran) while the caregiver runs errands. -Assisting Veterans in enrolling and accessing VA benefits. -Send cards, call patients and caregivers -Participating in our Veteran recognition and pinning ceremonies. The Veteran Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age, a Veteran, or Active Reservist, or Retired Veteran.

Administrative Volunteer

Administrative Volunteers provide organizational and clerical support including filing, answering phones, mailings and additional support. Our volunteers help make weekly calls to patients and caregivers to check to see if they need supplies or other needs they may have.

Hospice companionship volunteers visit patients in their homes or in facilities anywhere from once a month to once a week, depending on your schedule. Volunteers provide companionship to patients and caregivers. They listen to patients' stories and provide a listening ear. Our volunteers read books, look at pictures, play cards and laugh with our patients. When a family member needs a break or needs to run an errand, our volunteers step in to help out. Our volunteers are here to meet non-medical is needed for our patients, their families and our Gentiva staff. No medical experience needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medications. Our patients love our volunteers and the time you give is invaluable to a patient and their family during a very difficult season in their lives. No matter your skills, talents and motivation, we have the opportunity for you to be the light in the darkness.

Hospice Music Therapy Volunteer

Music is a fun leisure activity that most people enjoy, but especially as we grow older, music take us back in time and rekindles sweet memories. Research has shown music to be a great tool for older adults who suffer from Alzheimer's and dementia diagnosis.
