Description: Welcome and orient school groups to in-gallery inquiry programs Support student-driven exploration of galleries through facilitating inquiry and dialogue, in partnership with other volunteers, teachers, and museum staff. Help students make connections to their own lives through storytelling and culturally responsive education practices. Using gallery resources, introduce key program concepts and model skills in support of program learning objectives Attend trainings and build knowledge around facilitation strategies for student-driven inquiry, culturally responsive and anti-racist education practices, and program and relevant gallery content SKAs/Qualifications: Passionate about working with K-12 students and teachers, and helping them have fun at OMCA Collaborate with other volunteers and museum staff Welcoming and enthusiastic representative of OMCA, with inclusive listening and communication skills Desire to learn and humility to receive feedback Commitment to: Our vision of social impact and students as changemakers OMCA’s mission and values of anti-racism, collaboration, and innovation Uplifting K-12 student and youth voices Schedule/Shifts: Thur, Fri, 9 am-12 pm Minimum two shifts per month Training Requirements: OMCA Volunteer Orientation Museums, Facilitation, and Belonging (August 2023 dates TBD) 4 week, 8-session facilitator training series (September 6-29, 2023 - every Wed & Fri)

Duties: Welcome and orient our onsite school and/or public groups. Help to set expectations, and ensure that school/public group audiences feel a sense of belonging at OMCA. Stay knowledgeable of our school group warm welcome, our gallery use guidelines, and our chaperone guidelines. Stay knowledgeable of current Museum exhibitions and events, and be able to connect visitors to information they are seeking. Qualifications: Ability to move around the Museum comfortably for up to three hours at a time. An interest in engaging with a diverse public and cultivating a space of connection and learning. A particular interest, and some experience, with engaging children and youth audiences. Attend required training sessions prior to volunteering, and attend follow-up trainingsessions as required. Ability to adhere to visitor engagement best practices, as set forth in the Volunteer Handbook. Speak fluent English; fluency in other languages a plus! Access to email and a computer (All scheduling done online) Schedule/Shifts: Wed, Thur, Fri, 9 am-12 pm Minimum two shifts per month Training requirements: OMCA volunteer orientation School group greeting orientation (1.5 hours)

Gallery Chats (GC) at OMCA puts a twist on the traditional museum tour. Using an informal approach, GC Volunteer Facilitators combine content knowledge with lived experience. By centering community voice and encouraging dialogue in our galleries GC Facilitators provide meaningul and fresh interpretations of our Special Exhibitions and Core Galleries.
