Writing Internship Dear Applicant, The Yiddish Arts and Academic Association of North America (YAAANA) and its physical location called Yiddishland California, both based in San Diego, California, are looking for a Writing Intern. The mission of YAAANA and Yiddishland California is to promote Yiddish language and culture through academic and artistic events. To learn more about the organization, please visit www.yiddishlandcalifornia.org. We are currently seeking an organized, creative, energetic, and diligent individual to assist us. No knowledge of Yiddish language is required. Our interns receive free access to all YAAANA events and classes as well as to the YAAANA archives. Internships are unpaid, but can be taken for college credit. We offer in-person and remote internships. Key Responsibilities and Duties Prepare, draft and write a variety of official documents, including offer letters, by-laws, letters of internship completion among others, as needed. Draft and write informative material for our website, social media, and other materials not limited to language class descriptions, summaries and general descriptions for cultural and social events. Drafting, researching, and submitting grant applications. Create templates for documents and email messages to be used by other team members. Work Experience & Skills Completion of relevant college-level course work, such as progress towards a degree in English/literature, writing, library science, religious studies, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong initiative and creativity. Familiarity with Jewish culture is a plus. Learning Objectives Interns will gain experience in researching and drafting official documents. Interns will gain experience in grant and technical writing. Interns will further develop their written communication skills with staff members, strategic partner organizations and large corporations alike. Interns will gain a deeper understanding of Jewish Culture. Learning Outcomes Interns will master the ability to create a variety of documents and written materials with precision and creativity depending on the context and needs. Interns will be proficient in producing high-quality written descriptions for classes, as well as formal and informal events, for printed and electronic distribution. Estimated Duration Full-time: preferably 8, minimum 6 week engagement with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Part-time: preferably 16, minimum 12 week engagement with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Longer internships with a less demanding time commitment are available upon request.
