Mission Statement
Arts Bridging the Gap uplifts the voices, experiences, and self-expression of youth from under-resourced communities through healing arts programs. Through our work, youth develop interpersonal skills and growth mindsets that enable them to be their best selves in our community.
Description
ABG facilitates programs that center the arts as an essential piece of healing childhood trauma and that aim to:
- Explore the intersection of social justice, art and creativity
- Improve participants’ mental health and overall wellness
- Expand access to excellent arts experiences, particularly in underserved communities
- Provide essential support services to youth including job training, socio-emotional tools, mentorship, and opportunities to develop their communication and leadership skills
Since its founding in 2014, Arts Bridging the Gap has administered 1300+ art classes for 2,230 young people and spearheaded the creation of 69 murals. The organization strongly believes that consistent, reliable programming is essential to system-level change.
ABG also believes in the inherent value and potential of every individual. By offering inclusive programming that is accessible to young people of all abilities, ethnicities, races, socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, ABG fosters a sense of belonging and nurtures self-esteem and self-efficacy.
