Description
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, volunteer community service which provides home delivered meals for anyone in our area who is unable to prepare or obtain adequate, nutritious meals. Nine teams of two pick up the meals (one hot meal-for noon, one cold supper - for evening ) at our office location. Meals are prepared under strict dietary supervision (low-sodium, low-fat, diabetic, renal, vegetarian, low K). Pick up takes place between 10:00 am -10:45 am M-F. Each driver then proceeds along their well-diagramed route to deliver to homes and apartments within the Westwood/Brentwood/West Los Angeles area . Approximately 150 people benefit each weekday. Last year over 78,000 meals were served . Instant gratification is our reward when the door opens. If these meals were not delivered, our clients would not be able to live at home independently. They cannot manage to shop, prepare food and clean up for themselves. One woman told us by the time she had prepared the meal for herself, she was too tired to eat it. Food costs can be covered by the client if they can afford it, no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
