Mission Statement
To advocate for the equity and accessibility of college education to public high school students in Detroit, Michigan.
Description
Bringing Hope Back Home (BHBH) was founded in 2017. Our founder, wanted to provide the support that her peers and her were not fully given in high school.
We are a team of high school and college students dedicated to bringing public high school students the resources necessary to succeed in college. Our purpose is to help with the transition to college and to provide exposure to higher education. Our programming includes monthly college prep themed webinars, one-on-one college advising, and an annual summer workshop series. As students ourselves, we understand the stress, pressure, and uneasiness surrounding the transition into college. Our goal is to alleviate some of that stress by showing students that higher education is an attainable possibility.
Some of recent achievements include the following:
- In 2019, we were an optiMize Social Innovation Challenge grant Winner. We were 1 out of 36 teams selected from 363 submissions.
- In 2020, we were featured in Lenovo, Girl Up, and ARRAY’s virtual reality film series, New Realities.
- Recently, we were awarded a grant from the Skillman Foundation President's Youth Council.
