Mission Statement
Our mission is to advance the understanding of our printing and design heritage by documenting, archiving and reproducing the history and images of American letterpress printing. Our premier collection of printing type, engravings, library, prints and equipment support scholarship and education at all levels by preserving through use, research and demonstration.
Description
In 1880, John Edward Hamilton founded the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Company in Two Rivers. In 1999, this museum was established to preserve the artifacts from the Hamilton Company as well as exhibits recounting the history of print. Our museum aims to educate and inspire creativity in all patrons. Our exhibitions display the artform of wood type printing. Print workshops bring creativity to the forefront as well. The yearly Wayzgoose festival attracts distinguished printers from around the nation, and the world, to celebrate wood-type printing as an art form. We have vastly improved our visitor experience after the lockdown. The Hamilton Museum draws volunteers performing maintenance and clerical tasks. We’ve held two successful online Wayzgoose festivals in a row. Hot Off the Presses, is a successful podcast on the museum Facebook page affiliated with a local radio station and featuring our master printer Jim Moran.
