Description The Ocala National Forest is seeking campground hosts for campgrounds on the Lake George and Seminole Ranger Districts. Volunteer campground hosts serve as an integral part of the recreation and visitor service teams and are often the first contact for information about the Forest. We rely on our hosts to set a positive tone, offer correct and concise information, and maintain a friendly disposition. Campground Hosts will regularly provide information about rules and regulations, recreation opportunities, and ensure our facilities are the positive face of the forest. Opportunities are available at the following campgrounds: Fore Lake Recreation Area : In the stillness of the morning fog, a red-shouldered hawk calls out with an echo across Fore Lake. Bounded by marshes, this lake in a scrub ecosystem is an excellent spot for birding from the shores of Fore Lake Recreation Area, where visitors can picnic and swim, or make a night of it in one of the 31 campsites tucked away between the saw palmetto and oak trees. Bring your fishing gear to make full use of the pier and canoe launch area. Fore Lake Campground is a quiet spot for camping on the western edge of the Ocala National Forest about 10 miles outside the city of Ocala. *Lodging is not provided. Volunteer must provide lodging (ie. travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome)* Campground Host Duties Greet visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude. Assist with campsite registration, answer questions, and assure compliance with regulations. Requested commitment time frame of 3-6 months Keep restroom and campsites neat and clean. Perform light maintenance of campsites and day-use such as trash clean-up, fire ring and grill maintenance, mowing, water system monitoring, and brush clearing. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to the visiting public. Represent the Ocala National Forest in a professional and courteous manner. Show a presence of authority and report any major issues to law enforcement and recreation staff. Keep recreation staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs. Description: The Echo Amphitheater Day Use and Campground is looking for highly motivated and people-oriented applicants to host and enjoy the winter months in the desert. The campground is small but mighty with 8 newly renovated campsites and one newly renovated host site. The day use area of the Echo Amphitheater is a favorite stopping point for tourists and locals alike. Host duties will include the following: Campground--greet and instruct visitors how and where to pay camping fees; clean fire rings; and provide information about Echo Amphitheater and other local opportunities for recreation. Day Use--greet and instruct visitors how and where to pay if they have not already paid the day use fee; clean restrooms at least twice per day; collect trash from bins and place in the dumpster provided; walk and monitor the path to the Echo Amphitheater at least once a day; address any erosion and silting issues after rain events; and close/open the gate daily. Selected candidate will bring their own hard-sided RV. Reimbursement $30/person/day. Host site amenities include electric, septic, and good cell service! Training is provided. We are seeking friendly and independent caretakers for one site on the Coronado NF: Brown Canyon Ranch day use area. At the site, caretakers will be responsible for greeting the public and answering questions. Caretakers are also responsible for maintenance (e.g., Light trail work, adobe patching, light carpentry, grounds-keeping, cleanup and restocking of the facilities, etc.) working with FS recreation and archaeologists on stabilization and interpretive projects. The volunteer(s) will work Friday through Monday (32 hours a week) and will assist Forest Service Employees in the daily operations of the various campgrounds or day use area. Depending on location, this includes but is not limited to: -Oversight of campground that includes cleaning and stocking vault toilets -Manage visitor use and advising of rules and regulations -Trash maintenance -Talk to visitors and answering questions -Provide information about recreation opportunities on the forest -Educate visitors on fire safety and Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly! principles Training and a district orientation will be provided. A minimum commitment from mid-May through at least Labor Day Weekend is required. A federal background check will be conducted upon award of the position. If couples wish to both volunteer an application must be completed for EACH person. The volunteer must always present a neat, professional appearance and wear appropriate uniform components and name plate while working in the public eye and on official duty. This position requires wearing volunteer shirt/vest components, which will be provided to you at no cost. Volunteer must have their own self-contained RV/Fifth Wheel or travel trailer as there are no hookups. These are boondocking positions. The volunteer will be trained in and adhere to all Forest Service Volunteer policy and guidelines. Campsites at Los Burros CG is described as a "get-a-way off the beaten path," and located north of McNary in meadows and wooded areas. This first come-first served campground is characterized by a scattering of aspen trees throughout the area. Lewis Canyon CG , located near Pinedale, AZ, is located in the ponderosa pines at an elevation of 6,000ft. Lewis Canyon is a large single-group campsite that requires reservations through Recreation.gov. Scott Reservoir is located 2 miles from the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, and is currently closed as a campground due to maintenance issues. The host at this location manages the area for day use. Position is NOT required or permitted to collect fees from campers or visitors. This position will serve the Parker Lake Campgrounds and day use areas. The Campground consists of 65 campsites, one group site, and a day use area at the Marina. Located on the western side of the District’s Huachuca Mountains adjacent to Parker Canyon Lake, a well-stocked 125-acre lake that offers a nice variety to the landscape. The lake is suitable for small watercraft and fishing, and has a 5-mile loop trail around the shore. Minimum of 24 volunteer hours a week is expected for this position. General duties include maintaining restrooms and campgrounds, making public contacts, and updating visitor information boards. Host must be able to handle garbage bags and clean restrooms. While you will not handle fees, you would be expected to restock fee envelopes at pay stations. String trimming grass/weeds around facilities, recreation sites, and the Lakeshore trail head is commonly needed. We offer full hook-ups (30 amp solar electric, water, septic, and provide propane) at this site. The solar power can fall short of some RV needs, so you will also have access to a Honda generator that should be sufficient. We also provide a golf cart for getting around the campgrounds. This host site is located in the RV side of the Parker Lake Campground and is situated at about 5,500’ elevation. Due to the elevation, this site has the added benefit of being cooler in the summer when compared to the surrounding areas. In the winter, we still have very pleasant temperatures, and if we do get snow, it rarely last on the ground for more than a day. For reference, Tucson and Phoenix are located at about 2,000’ and 1,000’, respectively. The neighboring city of Sierra Vista offers many big box stores, restaurants and services you would expect to find in any city. The City of Sierra Vista’s elevation is approximately 4,600’. The closest towns are the communities of Sonoita and Elgin located at the crossroads of Hwy 82 and 83. They are small communities that have their biggest claim to fame in Wine production and tours. The town of Sonoita has a convenient store/gas station, Dollar General, post office and a few restaurants. Fire and emergency services are also available from Sonoita. The Huachuca Mountains range from 4,600’-9,466’ with about 150 miles of trails on the district. Miller Peak Wilderness, located within the Huachuca Mountains, is about 20,000 acres.
