Mission Statement

Friends of Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area by promoting habitat restoration, education and conservation.

Description

The Friends of Whitfield became a formal organization with creation of their bylaws in 2008. Our purpose has been to promote the preservation of the natural and historical resources of the wildlife area, foster its use and enjoyment by the public consistent with the protection and preservation of its environment and wildlife, and engage in educational, scientific and civic activities that will assist the management of the conservation area. Volunteers have the opportunity to work on trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, and general up keep of the Conservation Area. Our organization believes in educating our youth about the importance of preserving and protecting our wild areas. We're engaged in fundraising to support the programs the Education Coordinator offers in the local schools. The funding we generate through memberships, an on line auction, and special events allows for classroom environmental education materials to be purchased and pays for schools buses to transport the children to the Conservation Area for a hands on learning experience.
