Volunteers get to make their own schedule! Our Non-medical Hospice Direct Care Volunteer provides support to patients living with a terminal illness, in addition to their caregivers and family. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication). Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer could do: Provide companionship Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers Reading to the patient Playing games Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc. Volunteers make their own schedule! We do ask for about 2 hours per visit.
