Mission Statement
Our volunteers are 55yrs old or above, and participate in our two programs we offer. The Foster Grandparent Program places seniors in classroom settings where they work with kids one on one to support the skills being taught in the class, and support the teachers by giving attention to the kids that maybe need a little extra time on a task. Foster Grandparents also work with small groups of kids and support the learning environment in that way for skill building such as social skills, math, reading, etc. The Senior Companion Program provides an opportunity for our volunteers to work with persons who are peers. They provide necessary social interaction for good mental health to those who may not have a good social support in their lives. They provide a way for individuals who are home bound to have a reach into the outside world. In most cases, our senior companions provide transportation to and from appointments (hair, doctor), grocery shopping, and other social events. They grow to become friends. Our volunteers earn a modest stipend to help offset the costs of volunteering.
