We are in need of having our state and federal tax filings completed very soon, we are registered in California. We use wave accounting for our bookkeeping as that is a free app. If you are interested in a short or long term role with us, both are available. Thanks. Sanctuary Hostel is an innovative nonprofit startup working to address the stray crisis, which exists worldwide, with special focus on Baja, Mexico. Our unique approach to addressing this problem involves building trust in the area and eventually building and opening an eco-hostel that drives community-based animal welfare through educational programs and serving as a rescue hub for the area. Our model plans to be self-sustaining in that we will not rely solely on donations and thus not be at risk of returning animals to the streets. Education based animal rescue needing fundraisers

We have anonymous matching donation of $90k, if we can reach the full matched amount we can get construction going in 2025 and finally make this unique project a reality. The plan is to promote this so that we can reach the full amount, this will involve creating a fundraiser and sharing it with influencers, other non profits, etc;. New volunteers in this role will take lead on key workstream efforts and ensure a good fit with other board members before being formally nominated for the board. We need a lot of help and therefore we are seeking experienced leaders to donate at least four hours a week for at least 6 months to tackle this ambitious and important work. Our Leadership Team meets biweekly, typically on a weekday at 5PM or 6PM Pacific time. Candidates with Startup experience or experience dealing with ambiguity and building from scratch highly preferred. Volunteer Primary Responsibilities: Lead fundraising efforts and/or outreach/networking efforts Prepare for and participate in official board meetings, including self-review of Board performance Utilize your own network to bring in partners, donors, or volunteers Act as an ambassador on behalf of Sanctuary Hostel As a board member, you are expected to contribute an amount that is personally significant/meaningful to you Specializations We are looking for some board members with expertise to fill specific officer positions. Please indicate in your application if you have an interest in these roles: Treasurer - requires creating and reviewing financial goals, reports, projections, and budgets etc. Legal - requires familiarity with Mexico / US nonprofit regulations Secretary - requires managing overall administration for the Board President - requires leading the Board. Must have prior board experience. Currently the founder serves in this position but would like to focus more with work "on the ground" in Mexico. Public Relations Qualifications/Skills Bachelor's degree OR 3-5 years of experience in related field Ability to make strategic decisions in ambiguity and bring clarity to goals Ability to work effectively with volunteers and diverse stakeholders Ability to work independently and asynchronously in a remote environment Previous startup and nonprofit experience, especially in building out marketing functions is preferred

By combining a hostel with the opportunity to volunteer with animal rescue, we offer you a place to stay, to help, and to learn about animals so enriching all our lives. You’ll also be able to give back and volunteer with animal rescue teams.

Description

We are building an animal shelter/ hostel/ community garden. Our model aims to be self sufficient so we wont rely on donations in order to care for the animals we rescue. Travelers can stay and volunteer with us in exchange for a bed. The community can learn to grow and cook plant based meals with us.
