Visit patients in the community and read a book, play games, listen and talk about their day, sing, run errands, there are so many opportunities! Volunteering to visit hospice patients allows the patient to have a friend outside of their family. You can offer them support, companionship, socialization, and family relief. Many hospice patients live without seeing their family often. Someone may have a family that lives out of state or are disabled and do not have the transportation to see their family member. Visiting these patients gives them comfort and happiness that someone is there to talk and spend time with them when no one else can. Several other patients live at home with a full-time caregiver, but many caregivers and family members do not want to leave the patient by themselves at home to run errands. Seeing a patient when the family member is close allows the caregiver to leave the home without any stress. Of course, it also makes the patient happy to have someone new to come see them and retell their stories, play games, or read. You can also run errands for caregivers that want to stay home with their loved one!

Veterans Caring for Veterans Our hospice program needs veteran volunteers who are willing to share some of their time and talents to help patients and their families who are dealing with end of life issues. Trained hospice volunteers, who are also veterans, will have the unique opportunity to support other veterans who have a life limiting illness. They will work directly with patients and families to provide services such as: companionship, emotional support, socialization, respite for caregivers, participation in veteran pinning ceremonies, educate our team on military culture. Our hospice program will provide education on the hospice philosophy and our care model. Our training will also help veterans understand their role as hospice volunteers.

Looking to help hospice patients without the drive? Join our team of administrative volunteers by working in-office at our Nashville location. Help fulfill office duties by taking part in office projects, copying and filing paperwork, calling home patients to check their supplies and medications are up to date, clean, and join staff lunches and office parties! Many hospice patients live at home without 24/7 caregiving. You can offer them relief by making sure their supplies and medications are fulfilled, so they will not go the weekend without them. Our staff spends a great amount of time working in-office to keep files and patient visits on par. An extra set of hands to clean, file, and work on office projects like decorating, arts-and-crafts, and organizing allows our team less stress, so we can focus more on the patient and families who need us!
