Do you love cats and/or dogs? Want to help pets reunite with their people? Are willing to foster an animal for up to 90 days? Are you at least 18 years old and live in the Salt Lake City area? Then join our Foster Sitter program! As a traditional foster pet parent for an animal shelter or rescue you agree to take a homeless dog or cat into your home until that animal is adopted. When you become a Foster Sitter for Ruff Haven you are agreeing to temporarily care for an animal who already has a loving, permanent owner who is experiencing a short-term hardship. We like to think of it as a foster parent/pet-sitter hybrid! Companion animals thrive in a home environment and providing a temporary haven for them not only minimizes stress for the pet but also for their person. As these are owned pets we receive a great deal of information regarding their behaviors and personality (good with other animals, children, litter box trained, high energy, etc.), allowing us to carefully match you to a specific animal. Anyone can become a Foster Sitter. Whether you live in a house, an apartment, work outside the home, have pets or children, we can find a four-legged match for you. Fostering is perfect for people who may not want the commitment of adopting a pet or just want to help serve the local community and its pet owners. To apply please go to www.ruffhaven.org/foster.

Organization Information
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a temporary safe haven for companion animals in order to keep pets and their people together in times of crisis, increase pet retention, and decrease the number of animals entering the shelter system.
Description
Our organization provides temporary emergency fostering services for people experiencing a crisis. We board pets at both a dog boarding facility (yes, even cats!), as well as individual foster homes. As of June 2020 we have reunified over 150 families with their beloved furry family members. We also host quarterly pet vaccination clinics. All services are free for our pet families. Our main focus is pet retention and keeping people with their pets.
