"Celebrating Life' is one of our missions at Vitality Hospice. There are many ways to bring a smile to someone's face, even in the midst of end-of-life, like bringing them a 'Welcome Gift,' or converting donated flowers into an arrangement to give to patients, or perhaps, work with patients to decorate their doors during the Holiday, or it can be calling businesses to make a last Meaningful Moment happen. We are looking for Volunteers to work with staff, and to generate their own ideas, on how to brighten our families' days, and those who we support (the facilities that our patients are in). We want to build a group of volunteers, for each of our offices, to make ideas and wishes come to fruition. This is a new initiative, so those joining now will help shape and lead this endeavor. So it is not overly taxing on anyone individual, we are hoping to find many like-minded individuals to serve in this way. By showing your interest in this post, you'll start the process to get involved. Please know that all Hospice Volunteers do go through the same onboarding process, which includes background and health checks and a drug screening, aside from an orientation and other items.

Some diseases are cruel. Dementia issues create a scenario where the patient is too weak to walk, but doesn't remember that they are, so they try and walk, but they end up falling instead. We want to do what we can to prevent that from happening to the patients we serve. Economics are such, that no hospice, nor nursing facility, can offer one-on-one attention for every patient, 24 hours a day. (And if they did, the cost of the care would be too prohibitive for most people.) One option to help prevent these falls is YOU! Having many volunteers visit for an hour or two, each week, helps share the load and can keep patients safe from themselves. And while you're with them, you may reminisce about the old days, or just be quite, sharing the moment; it’s all a worthy way to spend your time, knowing that your presence with them is preventing them from falling. From our Langhorne, PA office, we serve patients, with our End-of-Life Care and support, throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties. So, we need Volunteers throughout those Counties too. (But as a volunteer, you will go only where you are willing to drive to.) If you agree with me and like the idea of keeping someone safe by spending time with them, please respond to this post. Though, I'm going to be upfront, and let you know that the onboarding to become a Hospice Volunteer can be arduous for some, as it includes some self-guided education, health checks, including a drug screening, and a criminal background check. Some of this is mandated by the State and other items are just best practice. Again, respond to this post if you want details.

Hearing is felt to be the last sense to go, and music can have such an impact on individuals, from recalling a special time and place, or to calming and relaxing themselves. If you have this skill, please consider sharing it with our patients. Whether in a facility, or in a private home, your performance will reinforce that the patient, and their family, don't have to be alone and beautiful moments can still happen as the patient makes their transitions. All Hospice Volunteers do need to go through an onboarding process, but once through that, you'll be able to be involved as much as, or as little as, your schedule allows, but you should have some availability, at least half the year, to make it count for all involved. Contact us to learn about the steps to get involved, so you can bring beautiful sound to some of those we serve. And, to be clear, though our office is located in Langhore, PA, we bring our care to where our patients live throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties. (You'll only go to where you are comfortable going to.)
