We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. The Johnson County Department of Corrections is currently seeking dedicated individuals to serve as mentors for incarcerated adults within our facility. Our mentorship program (Mentoring 2 Excel) aims to provide guidance, support, and positive reinforcement to those individuals striving to reintegrate into society upon their release. Our mentorship program focuses on empowering incarcerated adults to make positive life choices, develop valuable skills, and build a foundation for a successful reentry into the community. Mentors play a crucial role in this process by offering emotional support, encouragement, and practical advice to help individuals transition back into society with confidence. The Criteria to Mentor: A mentor should be open minded to working with this population. Life experience is crucial. You don’t have to have walked in their shoes but being able to help guide them into being a productive member of society while navigating employment, kids, or whatever else they have going on is what is needed. We ask that if a mentor has their own history of recovery that they have at least 2 to 3 years of recovery. A mentor doesn't have to have all of the answers, our team approach ensures you have support throughout your entire journey with the client you are assigned. During the meetings just listen, offer feedback, and agree to work together to find solutions. After those meetings you will provide a report to the team, and we will work together to find resources available to help.
