The Rosemary Gabriel Shop Manager volunteer position falls under BPB’s program Bridge to Belongings and is responsible for managing day to day operations, inventory and customers and the In-Kind donations to BPB. Reporting into the Coordinator of Bridge to Belongings, this position is critical to the growth and expansion of Building Peaceful Bridges and our impactful programs. Through these programs, we assist in family resettlement by establishing a community safety net, assisting in the citizenship process, and building trust, hope, resilience, and empowerment. Ultimately, refugees give back to their community and make the country stronger. We have impacted 200+ families and we hope to double our support this year. Responsibilities and duties The Manager will: Managing day to day operations and coordinate donations and drop offs Manage volunteer participation and shifts Provide on the job training of volunteers Coordinate with BPB Volunteer Coordinator and Family Support Manager Provide customer service to family shoppers Managing inventory of The Shop Organize sorting and distribution of donations Maintaining a clean and welcoming Shop environment Financial reporting (spreadsheet) of donations and the value of the items Skills and qualifications The Manager needs to have: Strong communication, motivational and organizational skills Ability to coordinate and manage volunteers; requires strong time management skills Sensitivity to and respect of cultural differences Strong customer service and interpersonal skills Hours This is a volunteer position. ● Give between 6-8 hours per month (or more if interested) and commit to 6+ months.

The need Our Mentoring/Sponsoring Program assists in family resettlement by establishing a community safety net, providing regular visits, assisting in the citizenship process, and building trust, hope, resilience, and empowerment. Ultimately, newcomers give back to their community and make the country stronger. We have impacted hundreds of families, and currently provide comprehensive mentoring to more than 15 families and growing! In pursuit of this, we are looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers to support our Mentoring/Sponsoring Program. Our Mentors are compassionate people, nurturing by nature, and professional listeners. They frequently offer cultural counseling, education, tutoring, companionship, and a host of other friendly services. Some examples of what mentors do Be a part of a team that mentors a newcomer family. Meet with the family once a week or once a month. Tutor English through regular conversation. Introduce and guide family members through new settings, systems, and cultural norms. Coordinate donated food, clothing, and household items as needed. Identify and request assistance in other areas such as education, social services, and community needs. Nurture and support the newcomer's experiences, and share skills that might benefit the family. Tailor your approach to each family’s dynamics and mitigate challenges. Become the newcomer family’s "favorites" on their phones! What you need Adaptability/flexibility. Proven ability to remain calm under pressure. An open mind, a global world view, a strong sense of humor, and a love for Charades! Experiences and competencies in areas such as social work, counseling, and teaching are a plus, but not required. Volunteer details Mentors give between 1 to 10 hours a week and commit to 6+ months.
