Miracle Messages

Feel like you're too busy to volunteer? This is a perfect volunteering experience for someone who wants to be of service but can't necessarily commit to a shift, travel times, or longer orientation. After a brief orientation--which really helped me get comfortable with and get over my fears of being connected with a "stranger"--I was matched with an unhoused person in San Francisco. We connected by phone and then by text. I've had three other friends since, some of whom transitioned out of the program. Their staff does a great job keeping you connected, supporting you in providing updates and making suggestions for solving problems. You're not asked to be a social worker. If you identify a challenge, you can share it with the case workers on staff. You're not asked to share your phone number. Participants are encouraged to use Google Voice (or other services) to maintain their own anonymity. And you don't have to live in the area with your new matched friend. I highly recommend them.

The Miracle Friend program through Miracle Messages is such an easy, fun, and rewarding volunteer opportunity! I have made a great friend and I always look forward to our weekly calls!
