Kids get plenty of science festivals - so we make something for adults, for them to play. taste of science is an events series and annual festival dedicated to bringing scientists out of the lab, in from the field and away from their computers to meet with non-specialist audiences in their favorite places. We are a national organization with community roots. Those involved are hardworking, creative and passionate people dedicated to making science more accessible to everyone. As a volunteer you would be working to connect your local community with the exciting and valuable research being carried out at institutions in San Antonio. You would help to organize events to break down the notion that science is inaccessible and carried out in the ivory tower. We work to inform citizens who can then make better decisions, based on science, when it comes to their health, the economy and our environment. We want to engage people where they enjoy going to hang out. This might be their favorite brewery, or a family friendly event at a park. As a taste of science Social Media Manager you will: Build a social media following Create original posts featuring the speakers/venues Stay informed of the speakers, the institutions they work for and the venues for events Be aware of those that have social media accounts, especially twitter Retweet/share posts about events from your attendees Make sure you keep in contact with people reaching out to you through social media We are currently looking to fill this position in San Antonio. As a taste of science Funding Manager you will: Find ways to raise funds through sponsorship or donations Maintain updated docs with who you've contacted Keep the National Director informed of progress with potential sponsors for invoice and payment purposes Keep in touch with the city coordinator so they can update city finances Although this is a remote position, because our events require knowledge of our local community, we are looking for volunteers in the San Antonio area. We are looking for a city coordinator to recruit and motivate other volunteers to connect your local community with the exciting and valuable research being carried out at institutions in St Pete. You would help to organize events to break down the notion that science is inaccessible and carried out in the ivory tower. We work to inform citizens who can then make better decisions, based on science, when it comes to their health, the economy and our environment. We want to engage people where they enjoy going to hang out. This might be their favorite brewery, or a family friendly event at a park. This is a great opportunity in which to learn and develop skills in science communication that include networking, web management, project management, and social media presence. We are currently looking to fill various positions in St Pete.
