Patient Liaison Volunteers at our Indian Creek Campus assist with the following tasks: Greet patients, families and visitors who come to the lab. Assist or direct patients, families and visitors who need help or directions to areas they are trying to get to. This may entail escorting patients from one building to another. Provide a warm and welcoming environment for all who enter the lab. As needed, answer incoming phone calls about patients/families that are coming to the lab and relay that to the appropriate staff. Assist with escorting patients to assigned rooms. Restock and turn over rooms after a patient leaves in preparation for the next patient. Put together collections kits and help restock bathrooms. As directed by staff, provide comfort items to patients such as water, a blanket, etc. Help wipe down chairs and countertops in lobby areas. In cases of emergency, stay out of the way and assist with helping visitors stay clear of the staff. Refer any patient or other complaints to a staff person. Contact security if there is ever a situation that is uncomfortable, questionable, or hostile.

Breast Imaging Escort Volunteers at Westwood Cancer Center assist with the following tasks: Essential Duties: 1. Escort registered patients to the changing area and instruct them on changing into a gown for their procedure. 2. Orient the patient to the location of the lockers, restroom, and inner waiting room. 3. Place paperwork in appropriate location after escorting/instructing patient to changing room. 4. Restock the changing rooms with clean gowns and sanitize after each use. 5. Empty full baskets in changing rooms into large receptacles for used gowns. 6. Bag and remove full receptacles of used gowns. 7. Offer warm blankets to the patients in the inner waiting room. 8. Restock the blanket warmer. 9. Offer water/coffee/tea to patients in the outer and inner waiting rooms along with any visitors, family, or friends who are with the patients. 10. Keep the waiting areas neat, clean, and sanitized. 11. When appropriate, support a patient by listening or talking with them while they are waiting for their procedure. 12. Respect a patient’s right or desire not to talk or interact. 13. The "go to" persons in breast imaging for questions and directions are the front secretaries, the manager, or the lead technologists. 14. Refer all patient or other complaints to the "floater" or a staff person. 15. Do errands as requested by staff as long as it doesn’t involve body fluids. 16. Provide any clerical support such as filing, putting together packets, or other administrative support services. 17. Escort a patient to another area if asked by a staff person. *If patient has an oxygen tank, please ask for assistance or call for transportation to help.

Patient Liaison Volunteers in GI/Endoscopy assist with the following tasks: Greet and create a positive, caring environment for patients, families and visitors who come to the clinic. Offer a warm and welcoming environment for all who enter the department by socializing and engaging with patients and their families. Provide transport or wheelchair assistance as directed by the staff. Assist with escorting patients to assigned rooms and locations. Turn over rooms including linen changes and proper bay cleaning after a patient leaves in preparation for the next patient. Restock supplies, supply closets and assist with inventory and par levels. Provide clerical duties to include filing, copying, organizing, etc. Clean surfaces of tables and desk tops as well as chairs and other public surfaces. Provide patient with warm blanket as necessary. Provide patient with beverage after procedure as directed by staff. Assist with taking trash to soiled utility room. Assist with taking dirty linen bags to soiled utility room. In cases of emergency, stay out of the way and assist with helping visitors stay clear of the staff. Refer any patient or other complaints to a staff person. Contact security if there is ever a situation that is uncomfortable, questionable, or hostile.
